On Sunday, Holmdel Boys Varsity Soccer Will Fight for State Title

An amazing journey for the Holmdel boys team. By the team's volunteer Assistant Coach, Eric Hinds.

Against all odds the Holmdel Boys soccer team is exactly where it hoped to be when the season started.

Despite returning only two starters -- one who was lost for the year (Eric Bulvid), the boys have found a way to win and will play for the State Championship Sunday at 1:30 at the College of New Jersey.

It is been an amazing journey for the Holmdel boys team who have won five games in overtime and seem to always find a way to hold on or sneak away with goals when needed.

The greatest example was in the in Berkeley Heights against Governor Livingston High School where the Hornets were down 1-0 late in the game.  The Hornets struggled most of the game in gaining possession but the last 10 minutes brought a sense of desperation and Zach Bond put two goals way to lead them Holmdel to second consecutive Sectional Championship.

Coach John Nacarlo was dealt two entirely different teams and prepared them each to their strengths. He did a wonderful job conditioning these kids and working on raising their competitive spirit.

I also have to salute the effort that many of these kids have put in. Most of them have had to play multiple positions, and in many cases positions they were not all that comfortable with.  They play for each other with passion and it is a wonderful process to be part of.

Please come out and support the Hornets as they will attempt to go back to back with state titles.
