Cheering on the swimmers at the Hornets vs. Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs swim meet

Holmdel High School's swimming Hornets competed Thursday against Rumson-Fair Haven Bulldogs on Thursday night, capturing a victory in the boys event. But the girls were not as lucky.

The boys' final score at the heated indoor pool facility at the Jewish Community Center in Deal was Holmdel 86, Rumson-Fair Haven 83.

The girls, although capturing a couple of individual victories, lost with a  final score of Bulldogs 113, Hornets 56.

Parents perched above the pool were thrilled to watch their kids compete.

As always, Anne Pearl of Holmdel, was there to watch her son Hunter, a freshman, race through the water. This time, in the 100-meter Freestyle event.

"He's getting faster as the season goes on," she said.  "I love seeing all the kids and their friends together.  The program they have is great...it's been the best experience," she said.

Pam Mills proudly cheered on her daughter, a junior, Hannah.  "I've been coming out for seven years now," she said.  "I just love watching Hannah and all the swimmers, and this pool is just incredible, the way they have it set up. What a view."

Mills was referring to the elevated platform with bleacher seating that hangs approximately 15 feet above the swimmers, providing a bird's eye view of all the events.

Diane McKay agreed.  "You can't beat this place," she said.  "They're really fortunate to have a nice facility like this to swim in.  I come out to see all of them compete, the boys and the girls."

McKay jumped up then and cheered her daughter Katie, a sophomore, as she neared the finish line, neck and neck with a Bulldog competitor.

"I think she won!!" McKay shouted.  "Wow! This is just so exciting!  I love watching my daughter win!" she said.
