Holmdel Broncos Win Holmdel Spring Invitational Scrimmage Fest

Travel soccer team brings home the top prize over the June 11-12 soccer-weekend. By Sally Russo.

The Holmdel Broncos (Holmdel Soccer Club) U-10 Travel Soccer Team had an amazing first-place championship win in the third annual Holmdel Invitational, a local scrimmage-fest featuring an elite, invite-only roster of Boys U-10 teams from near and far.

This two-day soccer extravaganza, organized by Broncos Coach Eric Hinds and General Manager Marianne Murray, had visiting teams from as far away as Lisbon, MD and Horsham, PA, while teams also came from Manhattan, and north and south Jersey. The Scrimmage-fest also featured a Brooklyn-based team with players from all along the East Coast.

In spite of rainy weekend conditions, the true soccer spirit was evident, with the Holmdel Bronco parents pitching in to volunteer their time and efforts to creating a true tournament atmosphere with concession stands, tattoo artists, and raffles of exciting sports-theme baskets. The tournament also featured skill tests for dribbling, juggling, shooting and precision passing, with medals and prizes going to the top 4 finishers in each category.

Of the winning weekend, Coach Hinds said, “I am so proud of the hard work these boys have put in and it showed in this weekend’s results.  We are a town team with 10 children from Holmdel, 3 from Middletown and 1 from Hazlet.  When you are competing against soccer clubs and Academy teams, it gets more difficult each year.  We have lost to all of these teams in the past so to put together a string of wins against this competition is no easy task.”

Congratulations to the Broncos on a hard-earned win and another successful tournament showing!
