Holmdel Village School's 'Teacher of the Year'

AnnMarie Barry, a special education teacher, was nominated by her peers.

AnnMarie Barry, a special education teacher at Village School, was recognized as a 2012 Holmdel district "Teacher of the Year" at the last Board of Education meeting.

Barry was nominated by fellow teachers for her committment and connection to her students, effectiveness in the classroom, and thoughtful use of technology. A special panel made the final determination.

"She creates an energetic and positive atmosphere for her students, allowing creativity and a love of learning
to shine through," said Superintendent Barbara Duncan in a press release.

In addition to being a dedicated teacher to six special education students, Barry also has taken a leadership role on the Character Education Committee at the preschool-3rd grade school. Her help in spearheading the "Bucket Filling" intitiative was noted by the panel.

 "I am very honored," said Barry at the May 30 meeting, where she was congratulated by Principal Brian Schillaci, Superintendent Duncan and Board President Barbara Garrity.
