Weekend Lane Closures Coming to Parkway NB Local Lanes

Work starts tonight and continues through the weekends through December between mileposts 117 to 118.

Beginning this weekend, one northbound lane of the Garden State Parkway in the area of Exit 117 will be closed on the weekends through December.

Blinking signs and cones are set up now, warning motorists of the lane closure and shift on Friday night.

"We’re making repairs to a bridge on the Parkway," said a NJ Turnpike spokesperson Tom Feeney, which oversees the GSP. "The bridge is nearly 60 years old, and the deck is in poor condition. We’re reconstructing the deck, replacing the parapet and doing some waterproofing and resurfacing."

The right lane on the northbound side will be closed  between mileposts 117.05 and 118.6 between 8 p.m. Friday and 5 a.m. Monday.

Two local lanes will remain open on the northbound side, as will all three  express lanes.

There will be periods during the overnight hours when two of the three northbound local lanes could be closed, he said.

The project is scheduled to continue until mid- to late-December, and there will be at least one other weekend lane closure before the work is done.

This weekend’s work is weather-dependent. If the weather is bad, the work and the lane closures could be postponed, said Feeney.

"Our operations people expect moderate traffic delays on Saturday and Sunday starting in the late morning," said Feeney.

"They expect the delays to be cleared by evening."
