Primary Election: What Am I Voting For?

Polls open at 6 a.m. on Tuesday in Holmdel and Hazlet.

The primary elections are slightly different than the November general elections. Holmdel and Hazlet residents on Tuesday will be asked to decide who in their chosen political party should be allowed to run in the November general election.

New Jersey is a closed primary state. That means you have to be affiliated with a political party in order to vote in the Primary Election and you must declare that affiliation before walking into the voting booth.

But, voters can declare a party affiliation at any time running up to and  including the day of the primary election.
