New Restaurant is Proposed for Route 35 in Hazlet

Hazlet's Land Use Board will hold a public hearing on an application to build a one-story restaurant at the former Lone Star Steakhouse location.

The owners of the new Med-Express medical office on Route 35 in Hazlet, near the Village Court office condominiums, are coming before the township's Land Use Board on July 17 to seek approvals to build a restaurant on the site.

Just what kind of restaurant it would be is "undefined," said Marc D. Policastro, the lawyer representing applicant Defined Alliance, LLC.

The proposal is to add a 14,646 square foot restaurant addition to the existing 5,715 square foot Med-Express office, located on 3 acres on Route 35 South. The site formerly was the approximate location for the Lone Star Steakhouse, but after the restaurant closed the property sat vacant for many years.

The applicant is seeking preliminary and final major site plan approval as well as bulk variance relief for driving, parking and driveway issues. The site is in the Business Highway Zone.
