Look For “School Elections” On The November 6 Ballot

For the first time, this fall the Board of Education elections will be included in the November 6 general election ballot rather than in the spring election as has been customary in the past.  The Board voted for this change in the hope of increasing voter participation and to reduce our elections costs.  While our election costs are sure to decline, we would be disappointed if confusion over the school election date or where to find the races on the ballot reduced voter turnout for these important choices.

Board of Education elections are non-partisan, and so are separated from the partisan races on the ballot.  According to an early sample ballot provided by the Monmouth County Board of Elections, our BOE elections will be in a separate box on the bottom center of the ballot, just to the right of the Public Questions.  They will be labeled, “Township of Holmdel, School Elections.”

If you would like to see a concise explanation of what school board service entails, please visit our district website – www.holmdelschools.org – and click on “NJSBA Elections and Board Packet” in the District News section just below the Superintendent’s Report.  This will link you to materials prepared by the NJ Association of School Boards for use by those considering service on their Board of Education.  If you would like additional information about voting, two good resources are the Monmouth County Board of Elections and the NJ League of Women Voters.

Please look for the “School Elections” when you go to the polls on November 6.  Your polling place will be open from 6 AM to 8 PM.
