"I tried updating my address through various online sites and the zip code still forces the city name to Keansburg. We need to be 07730," Joseph Catalano said on the Holmdel-Hazlet Facebook page.
Interim Business Administrator Dennis Pino said the township has updated database systems such as the Mod-IV Tax Record Data Base, which reflects public record, and the township is hopeful the database changes will also trigger private online databases to eventually catch up.
"Some vendor or agency websites may lock down this overwrite feature forcing the user to use their system data only which is wrong," Pino said. "This is out of our control and not the zip code or data’s fault at this point; it is the irresponsive website function unable to properly identify the correct address and proper municipal name."
Congressman Frank Pallone (D-6) said he sent a letter to the Postmaster General requesting the change, after "hearing from constituents and local officials," because West Keansburg pays taxes to Hazlet, votes in Hazlet and receives emergency services from Hazlet Township.
Mail addressed to West Keansburg will be delivered without interruptions, but residents are urged to begin using their new address now.
"If a website is causing a User an address issue and can’t be updated by the User it should be reported to that vendor or agency directly," Pino said.
The Zip Code will not change and remain 07734-2913.
