Two Separate Serious Accidents on Holmdel Roads Saturday Night

Emergency crews kept busy by a pedestrian accident on Laurel Avenue-- and then two hours later by a car vs. pole accident just after midnight on Bethany Road.

Holmdel Police responded to two serious accidents last night. In the first accident, a pedestrian was struck by a car while crossing Laurel Avenue. Two hours later, a Hazlet juvenile driving a car struck a telephone pole on Bethany Road, according to the police department.

In the first incident at 10:21 p.m. Saturday, March 5, a man police identified as 41-year old Gary Wolchesky of Union Beach was hit by a car while attempting to cross Laurel Avenue from  Tall Timber Dr., on the Middletown side of Laurel Ave. He was struck by a 2003 Dodge Neon driven by a 24-year old Holmdel resident.

The location of the accident is near the Beau Ridge development.

Wolchesky was treated at the scene and transported to Jersey Shore Medical Center where he is currently in stable condition.

The investigation is ongoing and at this time no summonses have been issued. Anyone witnessing the accident or with information is asked to contact the investigating officer, Holmdel Ptl. Charles Groder at (732) 946-4400.

BETHANY ROAD

Police responded to a vehicle accident at 12:18 a.m. Sunday, March 6 on Bethany Road between Telegraph Hill Road and Highway 35. The car, a 2006 Jeep Liberty, struck a telephone pole, a tree, and then a street sign before flipping over and coming to rest on its hood.

Upon arrival of the police, the vehicle was found unoccupied and police received a call stating the driver ran from the vehicle in the direction of Route 35.

A subsequent investigation led to the identification of the driver, a 17-year old juvenile from Hazlet. He was arrested by police in the Raritan Valley neighborhood of Hazlet.  The juvenile was taken into custody and transported to Bayshore Hospital for medical treatment. He has been released to his parents.

The juvenile was charged with driving while intoxicated, reckless driving, careless driving, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to report an accident, failure to maintain his lane of travel and violation of graduated driver's license provision, specifically in regard to the hours of the operation. 

The accident caused parts of Bethany Road to be closed until approximately 10 a.m. Sunday, March 6.

Holmdel Township Police Officer John Maguire is the investigating officer. He was assisted by Sgt. Shawn Bailey, Ptl. Matthew Menosky and Ptl. Michael Dowens. Anyone with information on this accident is asked to call the police at (732) 946-4400.
