Teen Attempts to Steal Lottery Tickets and Run into Woods, Police Say

The teen allegedly tried to steal over $5,000 of lottery tickets from 7-11.

A juvenile attempted to steal a 7-11's entire stock of scratch-off lottery tickets, according to police.

Because of the juvenile's age, a name has not been released.

Police say the 17-year-old entered the 7-11 in Kohl's Plaza around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday morning, and allegedly ripped the box containing $5,726 worth of lottery tickets off the counter and fled the store.

The convenience store clerk then chased the juvenile near the woods, where the lottery tickets were allegedly dropped and the juvenile continued to run. Police located the subject near Rt. 36 in Hazlet about an hour later.

The juvenile was transferred to the Youth Detention Center in Middlesex County pending a court appearance. The arrest was made by Holmdel Police Sgt. Charles Groder.
