State Police Vehicle Maintenance Facility Under Construction

Large garage can be seen from Garden State Parkway

A 4,500-square foot garage to service State Police vehicles is under construction at Exit 116 in Holmdel. The $1.6 million Holmdel Motor Vehicle Maintenance Facility should be completed by August, says an official.

“We tore down the old barracks after the new headquarters was opened last year. The garage is going up in its place,” said spokeman Tom Feeney.

On a recent day a crane was kept busy setting steel trusses for the metal deck frame. When complete, the masonry building will be outfitted with three vehicle service bays, a small clerical area, a parts storage area, locker rooms for men and women, HVAC installation, and electrical work. Finishing touches include glass block windows, said Inspector Michael Ward, with Hill International of Marlton, NJ.

Currently, state police vehicles on the Parkway are serviced at the motor pool in Woodbridge. “It will be much more convenient to be able to do the work on them at a garage right beside State Police headquarters,” said Feeney.

The garage is located next to the Turnpike Authority’s recently completed 33,600 square foot headquarters and barracks for Troop E. The two story building with a full basement also includes a helipad.
