Shrimp and Lobster Tails In the Shopping Cart, But Allegedly No Receipt

A Union Beach man is accused of zipping out of Stop & Shop with a sumptuous feast, without paying.

From police reports, Henry G. Dellapietro of Park Avenue in Union Beach appears to be a man of fine taste, but poor judgment.

On Thursday, a Keyport Stop & Shop store manager called police to say a man had rolled a shopping cart packed with $275 worth of spareribs, steaks, shrimp, lobster tails out the automatic doors, without pausing to pay.

Dellapietro was heading to his car in the parking lot where he had three children in the car waiting for him, police said.

When Dellapietro saw police, he fled on foot into the brush area near South Main St. Hazlet Ptl. Kevin.Geoghan was called to assist with his K-9 unit Diablo and found Dellapietro hiding in the weeds. He was placed under arrest and charged with shoplifting.

And it wasn't the first time this happened, police say.

When they caught up with Dellapietro, police fingered him for shoplifting at Stop & Shop on Wednesday, and walking out with nearly $250 worth of spare ribs, London Broil, shrimp and scallops.

They also accused him with a Sunday haul too: six bags of scallops, shrimp, eggs, soda and other items worth $200.

Dellapietro is facing three counts of shoplifting at Stop & Shop, and two charges related to trying to run away from an officer who put him under arrest. When police checked the database, they discovered he was also was wanted on a shoplifting charge in Aberdeen and driving on the revoked list in Middletown Township and Ocean County. He also is also wanted by the Monmouth County Superior Court for violating probation.

Keyport officers assisting in the arrest are Ptl. Matthew Salvatore, Ptl. Robert Aumack, Lt. Anthony Gallo and Ptl. Geoghan along with K-9 unit.

Dellapietro is being held at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility in lieu of  $10,500 bail for the combined charges.

I have seen people at the check-out line with food stamps. Trust me, I never see luxury items, only the basics, milk, bread, baby food, toilet paper, etc.

You better hope you never need help; especially if Romney gets elected. There will be no "food stamps" and no food in local pantries. I'd like one question answered: Since when is it a crime to be poor? virgo24
