UPDATE: No Weapons or Bombs Found at St. John Vianney

Acting-Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni says a bomb threat that forced the evacuation of St. John Vianney High School Wednesday was a hoax.

“We’re looking at it hard and believe it to be a hoax and we will be investigating it thoroughly,” said Gramiccioni.

Gramiccioni said the Holmdel Police Department received a call at 10:39 a.m. indicating that a bomb was on the premises of St. John Vianney and that the caller was carrying a weapon. Following the call, the school was locked down and students and staff were evacuated.

Responding to the scene were Holmdel, Hazlet and Matawan police departments, State Police, and the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team. Gramiccioni said the FBI also offered to assist.

No weapons or explosives were found after the school was swept twice. The school was cleared at 2:45 p.m.

“It was an unsubstantiated threat and appears to be a hoax,” said Gramiccioni.

Police evacuated St. John Vianney High School Wednesday because of a bomb threat, according to the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office. The threat proved unsubstantiated and no devices were found on campus, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Chris Gramiccioni said.

A spokeswoman in the sheriff's office said a call reporting the bomb was received at about 11:40 a.m. The school has been evacuated and the Emergency Response Team, and K-9 Units are sweeping the interior and the exterior of the building.

According to an announcement on the SJV website, the threat was received by the Holmdel Police Department. 

Police closed off Line Road at Church Street to non-essential traffic and directed parents to a gathering point at nearby St. Benedict's School. By 2 p.m. the parking lot was full and cars were queuing up along Bethany and Hillcrest Roads.

The Holmdel Police Department is not releasing any information at this time.
