UPDATE: Crawfords Corner Rd. Re-Opens Friday; S. Holland To Close

Gas pipeline work shifts from the area in front of the high school athletic field to S. Holland Road. Closures begin at 8:30 a.m.

Holmdel Police said Tuesday that Crawfords Corner Road will reopen to traffic on Friday, March 23 as New Jersey Natural Gas pipeline installation finishes up.

On that same day, S. Holland Road will be shut down after 8:30 a.m., as contractor J.F. Kiely begins road work for an indefinite period of time. The width of the roadway is insufficient to allow through traffic to pass by while the work is being done, say police.

The Holmdel Police Department Traffic Safety Dept. is recommending that drivers plan alternate routes during this time. South Holland runs from Telegraph Hill Road to Crawfords Corner Road. There is no quick detour around the closure of S. Holland.

New Jersey Natural Gas and the J.F. Kiely Construction Company are installing a 16-inch transmission pipe to replace a 10-inch pipe through eight miles of the township. In several places, the old pipe will remain in the ground. The work began in November.

After South Holland, the installation wll proceed to Holland Road and continue northerly on Laurel Avenue (CR 52), on the Middletown Township border, over Route 35 to its terminus at the intersection of Route 36 in Hazlet.

"The roads will be restored following the completion of our work," said Michael Kinney of New Jersey Natural Gas. "The trench will be repaired and maintained for a period of time in order to allow for any slight, yet expected, settlement. At completion of the project, the trench areas will be milled and re-paved. Based on our current schedule, we expect that to be in late summer-early fall," he said.

Residents are asked to check the Holmdel Township Police Department’s website at www.holmdelpolice.org, and then go to “Traffic Safety” under “Happening Now” for the most up to date information on road closures during this project. Provided towards the bottom of the website is a link to the “Resident Information” website, where you will be able to check updates by your address and also sign up to receive emails.

Any questions regarding this project should be directed to either New Jersey Natural Gas at 1-800-221-0051 or the Holmdel Township Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit at 732-946-4400.
