Holmdel Police said they had been to LA Fitness over the past month to respond to reported thefts from the locker room of cash and credit cards from secured lockers, said police.  It is unknown if these incidents are connected, police said.

LA Fitness Manager Chris Skolsky said he did not know if the vehicles that were broken into belonged to patrons of the fitness club.

Skolsky, who has been full-time at the club since August 2010, said that he could recall only two times that police had been called to investigate thefts at the club. In one case, it was a false report. In another, a "stolen bag" was later found.

"I'm not saying things don't happen in this industry, but I haven't had any complaints at all," he said Tuesday. Before Christmas, he said a member turned in a pair of grey sweatpants another member had lost. Inside the pocket was $600.

The club offers patrons secure lock boxes next to the front desk, and warns members not to leave valuables in the locker rooms.

WINTHROP DRIVE
