Accident Monday at Route 520 & South Holmdel Road

Provisional driver fails to yield while making a turn, police say.

A teenage female driver from Middletown was injured in an accident in Holmdel Village yesterday around 6:40 p.m.

Holmdel Police say the 17 year-old, who has a provisional license and is not being named by police due to her age, failed to yield to oncoming traffic as she was attempting to make a left turn from Route 520 onto South Holmdel Road.

She struck the front of a vehicle operated by Joseph Scataglia 55, of Jeffery Street in Long Branch.

Both drivers were transported to Bayshore Community Hospital by the Holmdel First Aid Squad with minor injuries.  The investigation was handled by Ptl. James Archinaco of the Holmdel Police Traffic Safety Unit.

The provisional driver was issued a summons for careless driving.
