Local Food Pantry Receives Generous Donations Just in Time For Holidays
On Friday, December 20th, the St. Benedict Church and School community presented a check in the amount of $27,005.25 to the St. Vincent de Paul Society. The school PTA runs an annual Advent Project for three weeks in an effort to raise money, food and toy donations during the Holiday season to local needy individuals and families. The outreach is not limited to just the school and parish families of St. Benedict, but rather the entire community. The donations poured in from individuals everywhere, including local community families and small businesses. The Advent Project co-chairs Linda Armstrong and Lori Ulrich presented the check to an overwhelmed and most appreciative Patti Dickens, president of St. Vincent de Paul Society. The donations generated from the fundraiser go towards the important basics needed for everyday life; food and clothing.
About SVDP:
The St. Vincent De Paul Society, a Catholic lay organization, leads women and men to join together to grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service to the needy and suffering in the tradition of its founder, blessed Frederic Ozanam, and its patron, St. Vincent De Paul. The mission of SVDP Society is clear and evident in the work of these dedicated volunteers and the St. Benedict parish and school community; to seek out the poor in their homes and bring bread, clothes and most importantly friendship, as the best way to practice their religious beliefs. No work of charity is foreign to the society. Need, not creed, determines who is helped and how. If you are interested in volunteering or finding out more, please contact Patti Dickens, President of St. Vincent de Paul Society at 732-264-4712 ext. 34 or email svdp@stbenedictnj.org.
