Obituary: James Francis Turner

James Francis Turner was a lifelong volunteer at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel.

James Francis Turner formerly from New Jersey and Florida has died in Florida on Sunday, Jan. 19

He was born on Feb. 20, 1922.

His wife, Genevieve Mary Weldon, and beloved twin brother, John Turner both predeceased him.

He leaves his devoted children, Kedakai Mercedes Lipton, Marthann Demers and James Turner II; his sons-in-law James Lipton, Thomas Demers and Jack Gardner; his grand-children, Thomas Demers II, and John Demers and their children Thomas Demers III, Jack Demers, Taylor Demers and  Kiersten Demers; and numerous family members and friends who loved him.

He was an honored and decorated Navy veteran of World War II who proudly served his country.

After he retired as a Police Office for the Port Authority of N.Y. and N.J. he worked and retired as an Inspector for the N.J. Motor Vehicle Department.

Among his many interests, he found joy in traveling, watching baseball and football, fishing along the Jersey shore and time spent with his family.   He was a life-long volunteer at Bayshore Community Hospital in Holmdel, where he enjoyed helping others.   He was awarded "Volunteer of the Year" in the State of New Jersey in 2004.

Beloved by all who knew him, he’ll forever remain in all their hearts.

In lieu of flowers, contributions toward Alzheimer Research would be appreciated. Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 24, at Day Funeral Home, 361 Maple Place Keyport, N.J. 07735 (732-264-1352) from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial and Interment will be held at St. Joseph's R.C. Church at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 25, at 376 Maple Place, Keyport, N.J.  07735.
