Obituary: Edward Schneider of Holmdel

Ed served several years in the U S Army stationed in Giessen, Germany, and was decorated with the Good Conduct Medal.

After several years in a courageous battle with cancer, Edward George Schneider passed away peacefully on Feb. 9 with his wife, Ann, by his side. Ed is admired for his determination to continue to live what he referred to as "a wonderful life".

Never complaining during his years of treatment and rarely missing a day of work, Ed especially looked forward to Sunday dinners with the family and his weekly golf outings with friends. Ed chose to live a little each day rather than die a little each day. A remarkable 50 year career in the retail food business. Ed started as a store clerk with Grand Union. His professional resume includes owner/operator of Shore's in Oakhurst as well as executive positions with Grand Union, Foodarama, Shop-Rite, and A&P.

The consummate grocer with a true passion for his work, Ed lasted only three weeks in retirement when realizing he missed 'the business'. He leaves his most current position as Store Director for Saker Shop-Rite in East Brunswick. In earlier years, Ed's most challenging role was as Lincroft Little League coach for his son's and daughter's teams, and as a selfless volunteer for his church.
