Breathing New Life into the Center for Wound Healing at Bayshore Community Hospital

Approximately seven million Americans suffer from chronic, non-healing wounds and ulcers.  Dealing with a wound is not only personally frustrating, but can also restrict daily activities and have a significant impact on a person’s quality of life.  Thanks to the newly opened Center for Wound Healing at Bayshore Community Hospital, people in the community have access to the latest advancements when it comes to the treatment of wounds, including hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) therapy, a specialized treatment option which provides concentrated levels of oxygen to promote healing for the most difficult wounds. 

The new Center is located just down the street from the Hospital in a larger and modern environment that provides patients with the comfort and privacy of a standalone facility, but still offers access to additional hospital services.

“The opening of this Center is another milestone for Bayshore Community Hospital,” says Timothy J. Hogan, regional president for Bayshore Community Hospital and Riverview Medical Center.  “We continue to elevate the level of care in all of the services at Bayshore.  The introduction of HBO at the Center for Wound Healing is another way we are bringing the very best treatment options to our community.”  

Asaad H. Samra, M.D., FACS, board certified plastic surgeon and medical director of the Center, and his team of highly-specialized wound care specialists, including board certified surgeons, podiatrists, and registered nurses, understand the underlying causes of non-healing wounds and provide a comprehensive approach to health.

 “Wound care is a team effort which includes the patient and physician, and our team takes pride in utilizing an interdisciplinary model of care,” says Dr. Samra.  “During a patient’s initial visit a thorough evaluation will determine a diagnosis by one of our wound care specialists.  From there, patients will receive a customized treatment plan and begin regular check-ups to monitor progress and ensure optimal healing results.”
