Help Rescue Maverick

Saved from a kill shelter in Tennessee, Maverick is looking for that special family to give him a forever home.

Animal rescue can be stressful at times. There are only so many foster homes and way too many homeless dogs. Every once in a while a dog comes along that might not be on the most adoptable list because of age or size, but something in his eyes lets you know you are meant to save this one. When a Castle of Dreams volunteer saw this loveable Chow mix, he reminded her of a dog she once knew and loved. His name was Maverick and he was next on the euthanasia list in a Tennessee shelter.

The animal shelter in Tennessee was very small and with limited space, dogs that are surrendered do not have much time.  Maverick was spotted from a cross post on FaceBook and the volunteers at the Castle couldn't help but notice his sad eyes and the fact that no one was stepping up to rescue him.  They knew that if Castle of Dreams did not take this pup, sweet Maverick’s short life would soon be ended.  Through the help and love of a network of volunteers Maverick was transported to New Jersey and settled into a Castle of Dreams foster family.

Maverick is 5 years old and, although he’s only been here a short time, bonded quickly and is very loyal to his foster family.  He is up to date on all of his vaccinations, housebroken, and neutered.  He did test positive for heartworm, but is currently being treated. Castle of Dreams will cover all of the costs for his full recovery as well as provide a year’s worth of preventative medicine.  They are also offering a home trainer to help Maverick adjust to his new family.  Chow’s are a naturally stubborn breed, but with Maverick’s enthusiastic personality we know this sweet boy will excel in the right home with the right family. Someone with Chow experience, who loves the breed, would be perfect, but all applications will be considered.

Maverick is very low maintenance.  He just likes to hang out, play with toys, enjoy some treats, and go on walks.  Maverick is a typical chow, a little introverted and a little independent.  Chows must be accustomed to people at an early age so that their territorial instincts are properly developed.  Unfortunately, we have very little background on Maverick, but since coming into rescue, we noticed that he can be leery of strangers.

Maverick is also eligible for the Castle of Dreams foster to adopt program.  If you or anyone you know are looking for a big cuddly companion, than look no further because Maverick is the guy for you.  Maverick would be great in a home where there is a yard for him to run. He has so much life and love in him, he wags his tail constantly. Maverick knows basic commands, sit, stay, paw, and loves belly rubs. He’s just waiting for the family that will love him forever.
