Senior Activities Highlighted in Improved Ackerson Park

The park will reopen to the public on Oct. 30 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m.

Ackerson Park has some more to offer Holmdel residents, including a horseshoe pit and a shuffleboard court.

The park, which has been under construction since the township secured a matching Monmouth County Open Space grant, will reopen to the public on Oct. 30 with a ribbon cutting ceremony at 4 p.m.

A children's play area is in the eastern portion of the park, with a tot lot, gazebo, walkways, tables and benches. On the other end, a senior citizen's activity area includes shuffleboard, horseshoe, another gazebo and more picnic tables.

In June of last year, the Holmdel Township Committee approved a $8,725 contract to Ed Stillwell of Holmdel to create a bocce court in the park, which was opened last year. The county grant matched approved funds for the rest of the project.

"We want to do something more for our seniors," Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said last year. "We decided Ackerson Park will be a wonderful venue to host a bocce court in a section of that park."
