Angel Monument

The Hendricks(on) Family Association in conjunction with the Monmouth County Historical Association will be moving a 236 year old Angel Monument located in the Hendrickson Family Burial Ground, Holmdel, NJ.

The Hendrickson Family Burial Ground was destroyed in August of 2010 and the Hendricks(on) Family Association has been working to restore the 300 year old cemetery since the destruction.  The Angel Monument is from the grave of Daniel Hendrickson born in 1728 and died in 1776. The angel on the monument was done by the well known English sculptor William Valentine. One of his other works was destroyed in 2010 and it is believed there are only a few of his works in the United States. The damaged monument is being moved on Saturday August 17, 2013 to the Holmes Hendrickson House on Longstreet Road in Holmdel.  It will be stored there until the cemetery is reconstructed and it will be returned.

The Hendrickson Family Burial Ground has five soldiers from the Continental Army (Revolutionary War), one soldier from the War of 1812 and one from the Civil War. The founders of Holmdel Township are buried there as well as a NJ State Senator.  The importance of this cemetery to the history of Monmouth County is the reason the Angel Monument is being moved so it can be preserved along with all of the monuments in the cemetery destroyed.
