Centercourt To Open Indoor Tennis and Fitness Center in Marlboro

The company that leases the Holmdel Tennis Center is opening a full-service facility on Amboy Road.

Centercourt Athletic Club is constructing a tennis and fitness facilty in Marlboro.

The center, located in a newly renovated building on Amboy Road, will have six climate-controlled tennis courts, an equipped gym, a small massage room and a daycare facility.

"There are not a lot of tennis clubs in the area that have a gym," said Yevgeny Supeko, General Manager and Director of Player Development for the new facility. "This gym is going to emphasize personal training."

The idea for an indoor tennis athletic training facility began about seven years ago in Chatham, NJ. Now the company has several locations around the state, including in Holmdel, where it leases the Holmdel Tennis Center.

Several different tennis classes will be offered for adults at Centercourt, including group lessons to maintain the social aspect of tennis, and cardio tennis. Supeko said he will begin with four or five instructors, varying in experience levels.

"Everyone is driven and energized, that is the criteria I try to meet when I am searching for my pros," Supeko said.

Supeko said Centercourt's youth programs set them apart. While some tennis programs lump youth into one group, the new Marlboro facility will divide groups by age, allowing younger children and older teens in separate groups.

The goal of the facility is to offer a professional experience to every player from beginner to advanced.

"Unless you're on a professional level, you don't get to work with your coaches and an athletic trainer, they are typically two separate things," said Nick Burns, personal trainer and tennis pro at Centercourt. "For people that have nagging injuries or are just looking to improve their game on the court, I can really help them with the facets of their game that need it."

Supeko said most indoor tennis facilities operate with hard courts, making tennis hard on the joints. Centercourt, he said, adds personal training to the picture, allowing athletes to build up the specific muscles and parts of the body tennis naturally wears down.

Centercourt offers its personal training and massage services to athletes beyond the tennis court. Burns said that while he is a tennis pro, his goal is to keep people doing what they love.

"It's not just tennis training, you don't need to be a member of the tennis club to use the fitness aspect," Burns said. "It's going to be a lot more functional than your typical gym, which is really going to help with our injury prevention goal."

New members will receive a free consultation, where Burns will look for muscular deviation and tailor workouts and training to each member's physical needs. And as an added perk, the masseuse at Centercourt will specialize in deep tissue, swedish and sports massage therapy.

"You are guaranteed a quality service," Burns said. "This is going to be an amazing facility."

The center is scheduled to open mid-December. Centercourt of Marlboro is a USTA Certified Regional Training Center.
