A Question for Our New Senator

Did the Senator investigate or bury a Monmouth County investigation?

In May 2011 the NJ Police and Firemen’s Retirement System referred for criminal investigation a matter involving false pension record keeping and former Monmouth County Sheriff, now Lieutenant Governor, Kim Guadagno. The matter was referred to the NJ Attorney General, now Senator, Jeff Chiesa’s department.

Christie should be interested in such an matter since he once said that corruption in Monmouth County ran ‘wide and deep’ and since it invovles one of his closest associates. And under state statutes “Any person who shall knowingly make any false statement or shall falsify or permit to be falsified any record or records of this retirement system … shall be guilty of a misdemeanor.”

Neither Guadagno, Chiesa, nor Christie has responded to questions about the status of the investigation or about whether an independent prosecutor should be appointed to handle a matter involving a fellow cabinet member.

The matter dates back to 2008 and it appears that Guadagno, Chiesa, Christie and the Republicans are hoping that people will forget about it- at least until after the election.

So perhaps now our (‘I’m my own man’) Senator Chiesa can tell us who he appointed to investigate fellow cabinet officer Guadagno. It would seem alike a good first question and test.
