Holmdel Kiwanis Club to Host Picnic

Food, games, vintage cars, motorcycles, and a far-flung game of poker scheduled for 44th Annual Al Masch Family Picnic at Cross Farm Park, 12-5 pm, Sunday, August 14.

The Holmdel Kiwanis Club will hold it's 44th Annual Al Masch Family Picnic at Cross Farm Park, Route 520 in Holmdel, on Sunday August 14 from 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm.

There'll be food, children's rides and face-painting, games for all ages, a 50/50 Raffle, and this year, something new: a Motorcycle/Poker Run.

Anyone with a motorcycle can participate says Guy Gambacorta, one of this year's event coordinators, and must arrive at Cross Farm for 8:30 am registration. The ride begins promptly at 9:30. For a $25 entrance fee ($15 gets you into the picnic and $10 for the ride which goes into the poker pot), bikers will take off from Cross Farm after everyone gets dealt one playing card. The ride is expected to last a few hours, with stops at Long Branch Harley Davidson, Crazies Ice Cream in Rumson, Junction Liquors of Belford, and back to Cross Farm, drawing a card at each stop. The rider with the winning poker hand at the end of it will split the pot with the Kiwanis Club.

“It should be a lot of fun,” said Gambacorta. “Kiwanis will donate our half of the money to area charities that help children. We're always about helping children.” Past recipients have been the Rainbow Foundation, Mounmouth County Child Advocacy Program, local food banks, and increasingly, families in economic need. A complete list can be found on the Kiwanis website.

A scheduled Car Show is part of the day's attractions too with race cars, muscle car, vintage cars and more on display.

“Last year we had one car,” said Gambacorto, “and it was a big hit.”

Dearborn Farms is donating much of the food and, just as importantly, will be on hand to cook.

“So you know the food will be delicious.”
