Holmdel Girl Scouts Meet Their 'Adopted' Sailor

Troop Leader Linda Fernand tells how Sailor Andria Cooney of Keansburg made a special visit to her pen pals.

Two Holmdel Girl Scout troops got a personal visit from a sailor who they “adopted,” currently serving the country on the US Navy aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.

On April 13, during a special visit with the Daisy Troop #41 and Junior Troop #1874, LSSN Andria Cooney of Keansburg was presented with 180 boxes of donated cookies to share with her unit.  Some boxes were also donated by Brownie troop #260.

The Scouts were offering the 'Gift of Caring.’ These are Girl Scout cookies that people pay for and are directly donated to the Girl Scout troop's designated charity.

Andria brought her laptop and showed the girls a slideshow of her ship and the places she has been since serving in the Navy. She also answered all the questions the girls and parents had about a day in the life of a sailor on a ship at sea. The girls were very excited to finally meet her.
