Hazlet Post Office is Not Closing, Say Officials

But some operations will be moved to the larger USPS location in Matawan on Nov. 19, say officials.

Despite persistant rumors that the Hazlet Post office is closing, a postal official says there are no such plans.

The rumors are addressed on the Hazlet township website today. A Sept. 19 letter from  Government Relations Representative Marita Hines to Congressman Frank Pallone is posted, describing the USPS's need to consolidate operations.

This was confirmed by a USPS spokesman Ray Daiutolo Sr., who Patch contacted on November 3.

According to Daiutolo, the Hazlet letter carriers are scheduled to be domiciled to the Matawan Post Office on or about Nov. 19, he said.

"This backroom change should be mainly transparent to our customers and will not impact their delivery or retail services. It only changes the location where the carriers will report to work; there is no change to a Hazlet customer's mailing address," he said.

"The interchange of staff, resources, and equipment are put in place to improve efficiencies, reduce operating costs, and make better use of our resources.

Customers can still mail their packages and conduct retail business at the Hazlet Post Office."
