Deer Hunt Begins Oct. 1 in Holmdel Park's Ramanessin Section

Once again, bow-hunting will be permitted from Oct - Feb. 18.

On Saturday, two dozen elevated tree stands were erected in the Ramanessin section of Holmdel Park, where bow hunters will be permitted to stalk white-tailed deer from a half hour before sunrise to a half hour after sunset. The hunting season runs from Oct. 1, 2011 - February 18, 2012.

The mostly undeveloped Ramanessin section of Holmdel Park is just one of the 15 areas in the county park system where deer harvesting is permitted.

According to the county parks department,  a total of 480 deer were reported killed by 805 hunters countywide during the 2010-2011 season. Of those, 50 were killed by bow hunters in Holmdel.
