Mandatory generators?

According to USA Today, Marlboro Township is the only town with an ordinance on the books to mandate generators in township gas stations.

The ordinance was voted on by the Town Council in May, a response to the crisis New Jersey residents found themselves in during a gas shortage in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy.

The ordinance gives gas station owners three years to acquire a backup generator system, to avoid power loss and massive fuel outages during natural disasters.

Would this work in other towns? Is this something Holmdel or Hazlet should adopt? Tell us in the comments.
