Hazlet Bracing for First Winter Storm of the Year

Acting Hazlet Township Administrator Dennis Pino said Thursday afternoon that the township is already preparing for what could be a very bad winter storm.

"All snow removal equipment and resources have been mobilized, fueled and tested," said Pino. "Personnel, equipment, assignments and storm plans are being designated.

According to the National Weather Service, roads are expected to become hazardous with temperatures falling through the 20s. Winds will increase and snowfall rates could be near an inch per hour at times. Overnight, temperatures will fall into the teens, with wind chill near 5 below zero.

Pino said area roads and lots are being pre-treated with deicing materials in preparation for the storm and that Public Works employees "will be working around the clock for the duration of storm until roads cleared."

Pino said the township is asking residents to remove cars from the streets as well as mobile baseball hoops and courts to give easier access to snow removal equipment.
