Hazlet To Hire a Recreation Director to Oversee Pool Club, Parks, Programs

The Board of Recreation Commissioners has been abolished; a Recreation Committee appointed by the mayor will be formed.

The Hazlet Township Committee unanimously approved local legislation on Tuesday to abolish the 11-member Board of Recreation Commissioners and establish a new Department of Recreation, with a Director at its head.

The Department will oversee all parks and recreation areas, including Natco Park, the Hazlet Swim Club and the Skate Park near Town Hall and oversee year-round programs and athletics.

Also, a Recreation Advisory Committee made up of nine members and two alternates appointed by the mayor will be formed. Terms would eventually be five years long in length for the unpaid position. The Committee will advise the Mayor, Township Committee and Recreation Director on operation of township parks and programs.

As the township's former Recreation Program Director for 22 years, Committeewoman Barbara Ronchetti will continue to serve as liaison for Hazlet’s Recreation Committee with Deputy Mayor Belasco.

A Pool Utility would operate as a division under the Recreation Dept. to maintain and operate Hazlet Swim Club, under direction of the Dept. of Recreation Director, who will also supervise the Municipal Pool Supervisor. The Director will oversee the dedicated Pool Utility Fund for the operation and maintenance of the club.
