ReplyThe primary source of funding for schools in NJ is taxation based on real property. If you want to change that system you have to be in Trenton.
If you don't like the way the schools spend public money, then by all means vote and vote out those who voted for the budget.
I believe Mike Lilosnky, Victoria Dean and Edwin Modari are up for election.
Vote them out and don't forget Debbie Matos who will run to finish the term of a board member who quite.

The mayor and council have nothing to do with choosing a superintendent but I am sure that after he is hired they would have a courtesy meeting. The town and the BOE are totally separate and really don't have much power over each other.

ReplyIt will be nice to see a fresh face with some new ideas and approcahes. Dr. Abbott has served well but has become stale in the past few years as he approached retirement. Good luck in retirement and here's looking forward to moving the schools to the next level with decisive new blood.

Not saying you are wrong but the papers said the teacher did not sell in the school.

Student lockers can be searched at any time they have reasonable suspicion. There s no change in that.

ReplyNew Jersey v. T. L. O. Is the only state that has set the precedent that probable cause is not necessary to search a student; reasonable suspicion is enough to search a student's belongings. Overly intrusive searches, like a body cavity search, require probable cause.

As usual, you are for the most part incorrect.
As and example, to help satisfy the township's state Council on Affordable Housing (COAH) obligation without building additional homes in Marlboro, the Council approved a resolution allowing what is called a Regional Contribution Agreement (RCA) between Marlboro and Trenton.
What this meant was that Marlboro paid funds from the Affordable Housing Trust Fund (COAH) to another town and did not have to build additional housing in Marlboro. From where I sit this was a win-win. Trenton got housing it needed and we didn't have to build housing we didn't need or want.
This practice was commonplace across the entire state. Everybody won, till the activist courts claimed it was illegal.
Under the COAH regulations, Marlboro woud have to build something like close to 1500 affordable housing units. Imagine what that would do to the infrastructure of the town, schools and taxes.
Marlboro has been in the forefront of the fight to prevent these unfair rules and maintain the character of the town and continue to stabilize taxes.
I did read that the Mayor has suggested that Marlboro be allowed to transfer some of the money to other towns that had major damage during Sandy. I do not think our legislature or courts have decided if this is allowed.
Again, it would be a win win. Marlboro satisfies it's silly obligations and the money goes to where it is needed.
