ReplyHA. Still not sure why they don't look into putting the main feeder lines underground. Im guessing that their loss of revenue during a major multi-day outage would come close to covering it.

On the article Bridge, Trail Connects Huber Woods to Hartshorne Woods Park in Middletown

ReplyMy last comment was taken down, but here goes again:
This seems like Middletown/Huber/Hartshorne's version of the "Bridge To Nowhere". It seems like a gross waste of money by the Monmouth County Park System when so many more productive things can be done. How about some more programs for kids? More activities? Adding productively to existing parks that with upgrades that will get used by more people?
Seems like its a huge expense for something that only a small amount of people will use.

Ive always lived in the area, but moved to Middletown just over the summer and think its been great. By the time I woke up this morning all roads were completely clean and salted. Public Works, FD, First Aid are all great here. Justifies the high taxes :)

On the Blog Post Opinion: Overdevelopment in Middletown

Dave
11:09 pm on Monday, January 14, 2013
Joe, just because someone is a realtor doesn't mean that they cannot voice their opposition to a large community that is being proposed in an overcrowded, over-trafficed area of town. In order to attend and be the voice of opposition, people do not have to be prepared to pay to defend the lawsuit brought on by the developer to the township. As residents, we have to right to speak out against what we think is best and the town needs to back us. Thats what the town does, they protect the interest of their residents. If Middletown needs to flip that bill to keep this unnecessary townhouse "community" from happening, so be it. The owner can sell to whomever they want and Mr. Yahn doesn't have to be ready to purchase it, but the purchaser of the property doesn't have to turn it into a direct piece of our over development problem in Middletown. Im hoping the turnout on Wednesday is a great one. I'll be there.
Also, by the way, it doesn't matter if this community has low income housing attached to it or not as you eluded to. Its the fact that its going to bring so many more people that have a direct impact on schools, traffic and congestion in an area that cant handle it. Regardless if they change the setup of that jug handle or not.

I agree. I had heard that when the original plan feel through on the last round, that the owner was trying to raise funds to reopen the golf course. Would be great to get some aid for the loan to the owner to reopen Bamm Hollow. Just what I heard and I have nothing valid to what I heard up.

On the Blog Post Three Middletown Library Branches Likely Closing
Dave

ReplyI hate to be the one to say what most people certainly are thinking in the back of their minds, but the library that we group up with is really losing it necessity and value in the modern world. If we can cut three branches, while still keeping others open, Im all for it. Im sure we have budget money that can be used in a more productive manner. Don't allow me to belittle the needs of libraries, because they still play a roll in modern education and society, but the need has dropped over the past couple decandes thanks to the internet. Yes, this is a harsh truth, but a truth nonetheless.

Agreed. Could be worse. Give these kids a break and let them skate. Maybe tell them they can only skate in a certain area. Yes, that park is really nice and they shouldnt be allowed to damage the rails and bricks skating, but give them somewhere else to go.

I would say at this point, I would be just fine with a rate hike as long as they have some kind of benchmark that is set to show infrastructure improvements in the system. I don't mind paying extra, but they need to show their customer base and the state that they are investing this rate hike into ensuring that reliability goes up during storms. Unfortunately, these storms are probably going to be much more common in the north east and we need to know that we wont be without power for 10+ days every time one comes roaring up the coast. They need to have a program to show everyone how they are going to improve reliability by starting to bury lines, replace aging transformers, cutting all trees back, etc.
