The bus was transporting students from Rumson-Fair Haven to Marlboro High School for a math competition. None were hurt.
A school bus carrying about a dozen Rumson-Fair Haven Regional High School students was involved in an accident with two other vehicles on Main Street in Holmdel Monday afternoon. The students were not hurt in the crash, but the female driver of a blue Toyota Corolla was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, said Holmdel Patrolman James Archinaco The driver of the red pick-up truck was not hurt. The students were being transported to a math competition in Marlboro on a Helfrich & Son school bus when the accident occurred at 3:17 p.m. The accident took place in front of the Weichert Realtors office housed in the historic Dutch Reformed Church. A school bus crashed outside the Old Manor Farm on Bethany Road around 9 a.m. today, sending the bus driver and a minor to Bayshore Community Hospital. The driver has been identified by police as Frank Susino. They did not have his age and hometown. The minor's name and age has not been released, but police Lt. Len Sasso said his injuries were minor. No other injuries among the other players were reported. Holmdel Police Capt. Frank Allocco said that "it appears it was a medical emergency" involving the Shamrock Coach driver, who left his lane, crossed over the oncoming lane, and hit a wooden pole carrying cable and telephone wires. Eleven students and bus driver suffers very minor injuries and are released. Pick-up truck driver died in collision.
Editor's Note: this article was updated at 4:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 5. 7 p.m. update: A pick-up truck driver was killed while 11 intermediate students and a bus driver suffered minor injuries in a collision at Yellowbank and Fischer Boulevard in Toms River in the afternoon accident. Damage from a downed traffic light kept southbound lanes closed through 7 p.m., as Toms River Police, utility crews and the Ocean County Prosecutors Office continue to respond to the 2:26 p.m. incident.
