Chief Financial Officer Tom O'Hara explained that while the budget is complete and no changes are anticipated, the state has not had the time to review and sign off on it. The Hazlet Township Zoning Board of Adjustment approved a site use variance permitting a strip mall on Holmdel Road near Route 35 at their meeting Tuesday night. Strip malls, which are defined as any establishment with more than two commercial businesses in the same structure, are prohibited in Hazlet and require a site use variance from the zoning board, explained Joe Paparo, the board's attorney. The project would need site plan approval for any other variances before it could move forward. Matawan Borough will begin accepting applications for 2013 Summer Parking Permits at the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station on March 18, according to a resolution approved by the Borough Council on Feb. 5. Mayor Paul Buccellato explained that several years ago, the borough noticed that during the summer there were a number of open spaces in the Matawan parking lot. The Hazlet Township Committee voted 3-2 to approve an ordinance dissolving the Zoning Board of Adjustment and establishing a joint land use board after a public hearing Tuesday night. Under the ordinance, introduced by the committee on Jan. 14, the Planning Board will essentially absorb the Zoning Board's responsibilities. Membership applications are available in the finance and municipal clerk's office in town hall, located at 1766 Union Avenue in Hazlet. Cash or check payments can be made at these offices. Credit card payments can be made online using a credit card through Hazlet's GovOnline portal. All memberships purchased during the promotional period are non-refundable.
