Bayshore Hospital Receives $5M Donation from Janice Vassar

Janice Mitchell Vassar made the donation in memory of her brother and in a continued effort to help the vision impaired.

Janice Mitchell Vassar is single handedly helping Bayshore Community Hospital expand its cardiovascular services and vision center with a $5 million donation to the Holmdel hospital. The donation, the largest single gift Bayshore has received in its history and the second $5 million donation this year, according to a news release. According to the release, Vassar said her intention with the large donation is to “make my hospital the best hospital it can be.” Mitchell's father and newspaper editor John William Boyd Mitchell battled with glaucoma. Bayshore ♥s the Community with Expansion of Cardiac Catheterization Lab

More services, latest equipment and a goal to offer angioplasty.

As Bayshore Hospital evolves in its new partnership with Meridian Health, its cardiac and vascular services department is getting a new boost. Since earning state license a month ago to perform adult cardiac catheterization treatment, the department is beginning to serve patients with severe valve disease, weak heart muscles and victims of certain kinds of heart attacks. Previously, those patients would have to be sent out for treatment at Riverview Medical Center in Red Bank, or Raritan Bay Medical Center in Perth Amboy.  "The local community does not have to travel as far," said Dr. Shaddy Younan, a cardiologist and resident of Holmdel who a co-director of the lab with Parveen Uppal, also of Holmdel.
