Cancelled: Holmdel Presents First-Ever "Winterfest" at Bayonet Farm Nov. 30 - Dec. 2

A memorable event is in the works, inspired by the turn-of-the-century American winter scenes popularized by Currier and Ives.

The event was cancelled on Nov. 14.  The dates for Holmdel Township's first-ever "Winterfest" three-day festival have been officially announced.  The multi-faceted outdoor event on the grounds of scenic Bayonet Farm on Middletown Road will be held on afternoons through the evenings of November 30 - Dec. 2.  "In the 20 years I've lived in Holmdel, there's never been anything like this," said Mayor Patrick Impreveduto. The recent 'Rock Around the Park' event on Sept. 14, held outdoors at Cross Park with fireworks and a movie, drew 1,000 people, he said. "Apparently residents are clamoring for events like this, and we're happy to be able to offer them at basically no cost to the taxpayer."  Winterfest will be paid for through money obtained …

More Than 800 Attend Holmdel Earth Day 2012

The home-grown celebration of Mother Nature brought Holmdel volunteers and community together to Bayonet Farm on Sunday, April 29.

A beautifully sunny and breezy day added to the enjoyment of the 14th annual Earth Day at Holmdel's Bayonet Farm. According to organizers, at least 800 people attended the fair, which could be a new record. The co-chairs of the festival were Holmdel residents Carol Beckenstein and Regina Criscione. Numerous stands demonstrated ways people can better care for the earth. Ecology, conservation and celebration were the buzz words. The Red Barn was the site of snacks and drinks. Directly outside of it, fair goers circled around presentations by Arcadia Parrot Rescues, Clean Ocean Action, and Rizzo's Reptile Discovery. Downstairs were tables set up to show people how to go geocaching at the scenic farm and adjoining trails, pet adoption, and a …

Holmdel's Bayonet Farm Festival Gets $1,000 Grant from County

The Monmouth County Arts Council announced $90,000 in funding for area arts organizations. The multi-faceted Bayonet Farm Arts & Music Festival, which was attended by 450 people in September, received a piece of the pie.

Area arts organizations will receive a $90,000 boost from the Monmouth County Arts Council (MCAC). The Red Bank-based nonprofit announced 29 recipients of its annual grants program. MCAC Community Arts Council Danny Tamez said the organization was impressed by the quality and focus of the applications received, awarding grants to each applicant. “That hasn’t always been the case in the past. Fortunately, this year it was. They really did their due diligence in completing their application,” Tamez said. The MCAC awarded money to special projects, such as the Latino Festival of Monmouth County and the Garden State Film Festival, and as general support for arts organizations, such as the Middletown Arts Council and the Guild of Creative Art…

Verizon Gets Contract for Proposed Cell Tower Located in Bayonet Farm Landscape

Township Committee votes to approve contract at Thursday meeting.

Verizon has been awarded a contract to operate a proposed cell phone tower in a wooded area next to the township's unspoiled Bayonet Farm, pending Planning Board site plan approval.  The Township Committee approved the Verizon contract at its meeting July 21.  Deputy Mayor Serena DiMaso said that "There was a legal ramification" that prompted the Committee to award the contract Thursday "so we can move forward with it," she said.   "But as with any application, it will have to go to the Planning Board...and people will have an opportunity to comment on the cell tower at that point in time." The award of contract had not been included in the public agenda distributed prior to the meeting, and no members of the public spoke on the issue when…

Here Comes the Bayonet Bride

More brides and grooms getting married at Holmdel's rustic Bayonet Farm than last year.

Last year seven brides and grooms got hitched at Bayonet Farm in Holmdel, an authentic, historic farm with rustic charm and gorgeous vistas. Word must have gotten around because already this year 11 more weddings are booked.  And the year is only half over. With the increase in bookings at Laura Harding's estate comes also an increase in fees. Rates were doubled in 2011 to help offset the costs of recent renovations and improvements, such as bathrooms in the Red Barn and an adjacent gravel parking lot. (Holmdel residents get a reduced rate.) The township provides the space. But food, beverages, tables, chairs, decorations, tents and everything else that goes with a wedding service or reception is the responsibility of the couple. “They …
