Monmouth Republicans Sweep County Races

Freeholders Curley and DiMaso defeat challengers William Shea and Kevin Lavan; incumbent French best Steinhorn in county clerk bid.

The Monmouth County Republicans will retain a 5-0 majority on the Board of Chosen Freeholders. With 99 percent of districts reporting, Freeholder Director John Curley and Freeholder Serena DiMaso led their Democratic opponents William Shea and Kevin Lavan by over 25,000 votes, according to unofficial results from the Monmouth County Board of Elections. "We are gathered here tonight to make sure that what you have entrusted in us remains and creates the greatest county in the state of New Jersey," Curley said during Monmouth County Republican Committee’s election party at South Gate Manor in Freehold Tuesday night. Monmouth County Freeholder Candidates Vie for Office

The incumbents touted cost-saving measures and corruption-fighting, while the challengers appealed for political diversity during a debate among the Monmouth County freeholder candidates. The Monmouth County League of Women Voters hosted a forum at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan on Wednesday featuring all four candidates seeking slots on the freeholder board. No Challenges for County Office Candidates in June Primary

Republicans and Democrats fielded candidates for county clerk and two freeholder seats.

Candidates vying for county offices will not face challenges in the June primary election. The Monmouth County Republican Committee and the Monmouth County Democrats each fielded a single candidate for a three-year, full-term freeholder seat; a one-year unexpired freeholder seat; and a five-year, full-term county clerk seat as of the April 2 primary election filing deadline, according to the Monmouth County Board of Elections. Candidates Vie for Monmouth Freeholder Seats

A field of six candidates, including two incumbents, are seeking election to two positions on the freeholder board.

The crowded Monmouth County freeholder race features six candidates vying for two seats on the board. Incumbents Lillian Burry, a Republican, and Amy Mallet, a Democrat, are seeking another three-year term on the board. Burry’s running mate is Spring Lake Councilman Gary Rich, while Mallet is joined on the Democratic slate by retired New Jersey State Trooper William Shea. Tom Markowski, a self-described fiscal conservative, is running as an independent candidate. Brookdale Community College student Patrick Noble on the Socialist Party ticket.
