In Letter to Governor, Alcatel-Lucent Seeks to "Set the Record Straight"

Company refutes "inaccurate" views presented by opponents of proposed amendments to Monmouth County Wastewater Management Plan, specifically those made by former Holmdel mayor Ernest Cote.

The following is a letter written by Patrick D. Morrison, the Vice President of Real Estate for Alcatel-Lucent, to Gov. Chris Christie. It is dated June 22, 2011 and was shared with Holmdel Patch on June 23.  In refers to a letter Cote sent to Christie last week.  Dear Governor Christie:             On behalf of Alcatel-Lucent USA, Inc. I am writing to you to set the record straight on the proposed Monmouth County wastewater management plan (WMP) for Holmdel Township that was prepared by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.              The proposed WMP, which was the subject of a public hearing earlier this month, affects the two properties owned and operated by Alcatel-Lucent that were the site of Bell Labs research …

Read Former Mayor Ernest Cote's Letter to Governor on Lucent Sewer Issue

A response to Lucent's June 6 testimony by William Parkinson at DEP hearing

The following letter to Gov. Chris Christie, written by former Holmdel Mayor Ernest Cote, now a resident of Asbury Park, was distributed to the media on June 15. Cote was mayor in 1992 at a time when the Township Committee allowed limited sewering of the AT&T Bell Labs site, now known as the Alcatel-Lucent property.  Governor Christie,  The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) is, inexplicably, considering adding the entirety (470+ acres) of the former Holmdel AT&T Bell Labs site to the sewer service area of the Bayshore Regional Sewage Authority (BRSA).  In support of this irrational proposition, and in a selfish attempt to balloon the value of its land, Alcatel-Lucent (the French company that now owns the property) …

I had not read this letter previously. Thanks Patch for archiving all of the Lucent articles. If the history is accurate, I'm wondering how much of the heavy metal affluent is still in the soil. I live on the south slope with a stream in my back yard that gets fed by drain water and ground water, and I've always wondered why there is not more wildlife in and around the water. It too feeds into …   more ›

Alcatel-Lucent Statement on Proposed County Wastewater Management Plan

William Parkinson said to not include the Bell Labs properties in the sewer service area would be "unjust."

The real estate manager of the Alcatel-Lucent company read a statement for the record at the NJDEP public hearing on June 6. In it, he said the company maintains that its property was always supposed to be included in a sewer service area.

Absolutely incorrect. The Mayor at that time, Ernest Cote, has given the correct testimony. So has Carol Balmer. But what do you expect Mr. Parkinson to say? He's paid an awful lot to lie.   more ›

Rewind to 1992, with Former Mayor Ernest Cote

Cote refutes Alcatel-Lucent's claim that Holmdel always intended to include the 475-acre property in sewer service plan.

Former township Mayor and Councilman Ernest Cote returned to Holmdel politics Monday night to refute Alcatel-Lucent's claim that the township always intended to include the 475-Bell Labs tract in a sewer service area. Cote appeared as one of 22 people who gave public commentary to the NJDEP against proposed changes to the county wastewater management plan which would put several undeveloped Holmdel areas, such as Alcatel-Lucent, into a sewer service area.  He said he would know what actually happened because he was mayor when the AT&T Corporation, the coporate predecessor to Alcatel-Lucent -- negotiated terms with the township and the Bayshore Regional Sewerage Authority for two pumping stations and 21,000 feet of sewer line.   Cote,  a …

Petition Drive To Protest Sewering Plan

Signatures being collected Saturday against DEP's sewering plan.

A petition drive by Holmdel residents to protest the DEP's plan to allow the entire Lucent and Garden State Arts Center tracts to be sewered will continue this weekend. Read the full story here.    On Saturday morning, between 9 a.m. 11 a.m.:  Volunteers were also talking last night about having a table for the petition at the paper shredding event on Sunday morning, behind Holmdel High School, but had not yet committed to do so. See details about the county-sponsored shredding event here.

This is scary. We can end up with potentially hundreds of townhomes on Lucent, not to mention the loss of water that would normally go to our reservior now going into sewer pipes. Everyone needs to sign the petition being distributed by CILU. btw- I thought it was the Department of ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION!   more ›

Holmdel to Fight Against DEP on Sewering Lucent, Arts Center and Holmdel Park Tracts

A petition drive to be held outside Thursday’s Township Committee Meeting

Concerned Holmdel residents will launch a petition drive at tonight’s Township Committee [May 19] meeting to support the governing body’s fight against the NJ Department of Environmental Protection’s (DEP) plan to allow the entire Lucent and Garden State Arts Center tracts to be sewered. The petitions will be presented to the DEP at its June 6 public hearing in Manalapan. “The Township Committee negotiated in good faith with the DEP and the County,” said Mayor Patrick Impreveduto.  “At the 11th hour, the DEP reversed itself and opened up the entire tracts to sewer service.” In 2001, the DEP and Monmouth County Board of Freeholders took over authority for municipal wastewater management plans, which include maps delineating where sewer …

That wouldn't make sense for Holmdel. Can't imagine anyone would be for dropping a religious non-taxpaying entity into the Lucent site.   more ›
