Holmdel HS Cross Country Team Takes 1st Place At State Meet

On Saturday the boys won the NJSIAA Group II Championships at Holmdel Park -- again!

The stellar Holmdel High School Boys Cross Country team coached by Sean McCafferty defended its title by taking first place Saturday in the NJSIAA Group II Championships, held at Holmdel Park.  Holmdel's Jack Baisley, Andrew Tsai, Dan Barlev, Aaron Barlev, Eric Williams, Nick De Maio, and Anton Luz ran a thrilling race for Holmdel.  Individually, senior Jack Baisley took third place in the race. Baisley had also led the Hornets to win the Nov. 10 Sectional Championships in Delsea. In a videotaped interview with NJRunners.com after that race, he said the Hornets had prepared for the competitions by running every day, right through Hurricane Sandy.  Star Ledger sportswriter Jim Lambert cheered senior Eric William's dash from the back in …

Wow - congratulations to all the boys on the Holmdel Cross Country team. I have seen them training all through the summer up until this championship win throughout Holmdel and on the hills of country woods. Hard work pays off. Good job Sean and congrats to the seniors for a great 4 years!   more ›

Holmdel Boy's Cross-Country Continues To Make Strides

The Holmdel boy's cross-country is aiming to keep pace with nationally-ranked CBA and be the best public school team in New Jersey.

The Holmdel boys cross-country season began last Friday at Ocean County Park, and the team is looking to be one of the top teams in New Jersey.  After finishing 11th at the Meet of Champions last year, Holmdel is aiming for a high finish again and even talking about qualifying for Nike Nationals, which rival Christian Brothers Academy won last year. “We talk about winning another state title, being the best public school team in New Jersey, possibly qualifying for Nike Nationals, those are all things that are important to us,” head coach Sean McCafferty said. “But my main goal is that the kids train properly, work hard, have a positive attitude, and when those races come up they are as ready as they can possibly be.” Holmdel is led this …

Holmdel X-Country Boys Varsity Wins Group II Central Jersey Championship

All Holmdel runners ran their personal best in Jamesburg. Now they are off to the Championships at Holmdel Park next weekend. By Marcy McMullen.

The Holmdel Cross Country Varsity team scored an impressive victory at the Group II Central Jersey Championships on Saturday at Thompson Park in Jamesburg.  Led by Jack Baisley, Jason McMullen, and Travis Fodor the team placed five runners in the top ten. Andrew Tsai, Dan Barlev, Eric Williams and Nick DeMaio contributed to the team victory.  Running in a field of over 100 contestants the Holmdel team pulled out to a fast start and was firmly in the lead by the first big turn on the course.  Jack (16:25), Jason (16:37), and Travis (16:38) set a blistering pace for the 5K run and the team scored an impressive 21 points beating Delaware Valley (2nd place) by 33 points (cross country scores low to high).  All Holmdel runners ran their …
