Three locations in Monmouth County were chosen to host Project Homeless Connect, an event centered around helping those in need and finding out how many Monmouth County residents are struggling.
Over 100 Monmouth County residents who lack permanent shelter gathered at the New Beginnings Agape Christian Center in Freehold on Wednesday, for the annual Project Homeless Connect program. Project Homeless Connect is an annual program hosted by Monmouth County. Aside from the New Beginnings Agape Christian Center in Freehold, the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission in Asbury Park and the Pilgrim Baptist Church in Red Bank hosted similar events to the one in Freehold. Mobile vans were also used on Wednesday to help those who were unable to get to one of the locations. The New Beginnings Agape Christian Center is one of the three Monmouth County locations available to the homeless on Wednesday, Jan. 30.
The New Beginnings Agape Christian Center is opening its doors to those in need today. On Wednesday, Jan. 30, a team of volunteers and Monmouth County staff will be in Asbury Park, Freehold and Red Bank meeting with people who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless, and encouraging them to seek county services and resources. Between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. all people who are in need, homeless, or impacted by Sandy, are welcome to come to the Freehold location at New Beginnings Agape Christian Center for social services, food and warm clothing. In addition to the New Beginnings Agape Christian Center, Monmouth County residents can also receive the same services at the Jersey Shore Rescue Mission, located at 701 Memorial Drive in Asbury …

On Wednesday, churches in Freehold, Red Bank, Keansburg and Asbury Park were destination points for homeless people to receive clothing, food, and/or health screenings. They were also surveyed and counted.
In many ways, the things identified as life’s luxuries are based on little more than a matter of perspective. For some of Monmouth County’s residents, warm clothing, a hot meal, and even the most minor of attention from a trained health professional are luxuries they’re forced to do without. Each year Project Homeless Connect attempts to collect the most accurate data it can with the goal of determining the county’s homeless population. Held on the same day in communities throughout the county, the program also serves the dual purpose of connecting residents with human services provided by both the county and various area non-profit organizations.
