Expanded Sewer Service in Monmouth County is Back on the Agenda

Holmdel residents ralled in 2011 to stop the action, which has not officially been taken yet.

Expanded sewerage plans are back on the agenda in Monmouth County, and Holmdel residents are again left wondering whether or not water supply in the township could be impacted. A future wastewater service area map will be discussed again in Monmouth County on Wednesday morning by the Monmouth County Water Quality Management Plan Amendment Review Committee. In 2011, Holmdel residents rallied against the expanded sewer system plans, which could allow the entire Lucent and Garden State Arts properties to become sewered.  Holmdel Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said during a statement in 2011, "If you cover up all the land with buildings, roadways, parking lots, etc. and don't allow the rain, snow and yes, septic, to meander slowly down to be …

Mr. Boyd, I realize Colts Neck is part of the Freehold Regional High School system, which includes Colts Neck, Freehold, Howell, Manalapan and Marlboro. Colts Neck residents most certainly do pay a portion of their property taxes for their school system, which also includes kindergarten through eighth grade. Do you know what the cost is to a Colts Neck homeowner per year for their school system? …   more ›

Woman Run Over By SUV in Holmdel PNC Arts Center Parking Lot Thursday

The woman was taken by helicopter to a trauma center in New Brunswick with serious injuries.

Two people were struck by an SUV in the parking lot of the PNC Bank Arts Center around midnight last night, following the Jason Aldean and Luke Bryan country music concert there. According to police, the two were laying down on the pavement.  "Alcohol was definitely involved on the part of the pedestrians," said State Police spokesman Lt. Stephen Jones, declining to be more specific.  The SUV with four people inside actually drove over Jessica Hillman, 21, who suffered a broken pelvis, a broken leg and head trauma. She was taken by medevac helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick and was listed in serious but stable condition.  The other victim, 24-year old Charles Wright, who police said does not share the …

I think it's more ridiculous that miss hillman's friends can't spell. Let's face the facts here though... Show was over! Get in your car and go home. Not take back out your chairs and start tailgating again! That IS miss hillman and her friend's fault, but I will then agree with Casey, she was in the wrong place at the wrong time. As the for driver, you just should be paying attention next time …   more ›

Tell Us: Should the Shuttles to PNC Arts Center Continue?

After a crowd control situation at the Matawan-Aberdeen train station, do you think Live Nation should continue to provide shuttle buses for concertgoers?

Police handled a large, rowdy crowd Thursday night at the Aberdeen-Matawan Train Station, as hundreds of concert goers got off the train and waited for Live Nation shuttle buses to the PNC Bank Arts Center. Police officers and ambulances were on hand, in anticipation of the crowds of young concert goers on their way to the 311, Slightly Stoopid concert. They were on extra alert after a similar incident in Long Branch prompted transit police and local authorities to stage themselves at the station to deal with crowd control. Approximately 10 passengers at the Long Branch Train Station were taken to Monmouth Medical Center after passing out from heat exhaustion. Matawan Police Department Lt. Ben Smith said he is not sure how long the …

Trains and buses are only "overwhelmed" when there is no planning. As well, a concert pays for its own security, which if it includes transportation, means security on the said transport. Bottom line: no excuse for anything but a smooth ride home on transit.   more ›

The Beach Boys: Soundtrack To My Childhood

The Beach Boys took the stage at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel last week during their 50th Anniversary Celebration Tour. So, I took the one person I shared all of my Beach Boys memories with — my dad.

So many thoughts come to mind when I hear "The Beach Boys": hot summer days at the beach, surfing along Long Beach Island, kayaking in the lagoon behind my house. But more importantly, I think of memories from my childhood and one of the best men I know — my dad. As a child, my parents worked tirelessly to make ends meet and to put money away for family vacations, ski trips and college for my sister and I. My mom worked locally for a state senator, and still does to this day. But my dad had a very odd schedule — working the night shift at ShopRite, stocking shelves — which was really only supposed to be a temporary gig after the family trucking business shut down in the late 80s, but is still his job today. He eventually became a real …

Live Nation: Sorry, No More $10 Ticket Deals at PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel

Instead, Groupon deals and bulk discounts available.

Don't expect $10 tickets at the PNC Bank Arts Center shows this summer, says LiveNation VP of Marketing Jim Steen.  Last year, LiveNation proffered 40,000 seats, or ten percent of its inventory, to ticket buyers as a sweet deal in tough economic times, said Steen. On certain Wednesdays, the queue could grow a couple hundred people at the box office, he said.  But this year management did not renew the offer. "There's a reality of doing business in New Jersey, and things cost money," said Steen. "Artists' fees are not going down." Instead, Live Nation will provide Groupon discount deals to 75 percent of its shows and continue the "Family Four-Pack," the buy three-get-one-free lawn seat deal. The anticipation of $10 ticket sales proved to …
