Monmouth County Freeholders reported that 127 recruits earned their badges and became law enforcement officers
The Monmouth County Police Academy graduated its largest class ever Thursday with 127 recruits earning their badges. The graduates, who served as police officers and Class II officers, will be dispersed to more than 40 departments within Monmouth, Ocean, Middlesex, Mercer, Burlington and Atlantic Counties, Monmouth County Freeholder Lillian G. Burry said. “It was really wonderful to see this,” Burry said. The graduation was held at Brookdale Community College because the academy could not accommodate the large number of graduates, she said. Transported to Jersey Shore for treatment of a gunshot wound to the foot.
Update, 3:10 p.m.: Bill Quinn, a spokesman for the New Jersey Treasury Department identified the Special Agent Trainee as Steven Raimondo who had worked as a civil investigator with the Division of Taxation for 12 years. Quinn said Raimondo began training for his new position four months ago. Quinn said Raimondo is expected to recover from his injuries and be able to return to work. Update, 1:45 p.m.: An initial report by the Howell Police Department indicated the individual shot was a recruit. Subsequent information from the Monmouth County Sheriff's Office stated the man was a special agent. Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden announced applications are now being accepted for enrollment in the 16th Annual Citizen Police Academy. The Citizen Police Academy is a 12-hour block of instruction designed to give attendees an overview of law enforcement services in Monmouth County. The instruction features presentations by municipal, county, state and federal law enforcement agencies. The course consists of six sessions on consecutive Tuesday evenings, 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at the Monmouth County Police Academy in Freehold. The course is also the prerequisite for becoming a member of the VISCOMP Volunteer Program.
