Step into 'A Carnival of Books' at County Library's Children's Book Fair

The Monmouth County Library's Children's Book Fair will be held on Saturday, March 16.

If you want your child to dive into reading and become more excited about books, be sure to take them to a place that will be making reading as fun as the circus! The Monmouth County Library is holding their 2013 Children’s Book Fair on Saturday, March 16 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan Township and this year their theme is “Carnival of Books”. Watch a dog perform circus tricks, a one man circus juggle and perform magic, and learn to walk a tightrope! Oh, and there will also be some books, movies, and raffle prizes. Romantic Valentine's Concert at Monmouth County Library

The romance will be in the air this weekend at Monmouth County Library Headquarters!

The Monmouth County Library is holding a romantic Valentine's concert this Sunday, Feb. 10 at 2 p.m.  Acclaimed singers Shannon Hunt and Ivan Woods and pianist Diane Goldsmith will play musical pieces by Mozart, Purcell, Donizetti, Leonard Bernstein, Samuel Barber, George Gershwin, Fats Waller and Stephen Sondheim. The combination of vocals and piano will explore the many forms of love including friendship, religious, romantic, and love of America. Songs, opera, and musical theater will all be played.  Monmouth County Library Headquarters is located at 125 Symmes Drive in Manalapan Township.

Monmouth County Library Offers Free eBooks and Audiobooks

All Monmouth County Library System card holders are now able to download audiobooks and eBooks for free.

Monmouth County Library card holders can now download eBooks and audiobooks for free. The Monmouth County Library launched Library on the Go! in 2012, a reference of audiobooks and eBooks for card holders to peruse titles for download. As long as you have a valid Monmouth County Library card, you can check out and download digital media whenever you want at http://monmouth.lib.overdrive.com. Library on the Go! is not open to those patrons who pay to borrow books if they live outside of a municipality that is not covered by the Monmouth County Library System. eBooks also are available for download through the Monmouth County Library’s EBSCO eBooks, which was formerly known as NetLibrary.  There are almost 25,000 book titles, including …

Two Jazz Concerts at Local Libraries this Weekend

Jam out to jazz this weekend at the Monmouth County Library and Howell Township Library.

The Monmouth County Library System is hosting two jazz concerts this weekend - one of which has some holiday flare! The Billy Lawlor Jazz Trio is holding a “Home for the Holidays” Concert at the Howell Township Library on Saturday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. This is the third time the Billy Lawlor Jazz Trio will be performing a holiday concert for the Monmouth County Library System. The trio, made up of Billy Lawlor on piano, Tommy LaBella on saxophone, and Gary Mazzoroppi on bass, will perform traditional holiday songs with a jazzy twist! Lawlor studied at the Berklee College of Muisc in Boston along side Bruce Hornsby. He was also Count Basie's substitute and an arranger and pianist for Billie Holiday, according to the biography on his website. …

Homemade Goods Being Collected for Displaced Sandy Residents

Non-profit Blankie Depot is looking for newly made blankets and collecting donations at the Monmouth County Library.

Blankie Depot, a volunteer run 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, is looking to give back to those affected by Hurricane Sandy. The company aims to provide homemade blankets to the children of New Jersey who suffer from illness or trauma. At the moment, Blankie Depot is looking to collect large quilts, knitted or crochet hats, scarves, gloves, mittens, children's quilts, fleece blankets, sewn pillow cases, afghans and flannel robes. A collection bin is currently located at the Monmouth County Library (near the DVD room) in Manalapan Township from now until January 31, 2013. Will the World End this December? Find Out!

A Mayan scholar discusses the idea that the world will end this December at the Monmouth County Library on Saturday, Dec. 1.

According to the Mayan calendar, the world will come to an end this December. Do you think that is true, or do you think it is just another normal calendar year? Mayan scholar Joanne Baron will be discussing this belief at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan Township on Saturday, Dec. 1 at 2 p.m. She will talk about how the idea of the world ending in 2012 has grown in popularity over the years, how the idea spread, and also discuss what the Mayan Calendar actually says about the subject. Baron, who is currenty a graduate student at the University of Pennsylvania, has excavated with the Penn Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology at the site of La Corona in Guatemala. Learn About Colonial and Victorian Christmas Customs at Library

The presentation will be held on Friday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan Township.

The Monmouth County Library System is bringing back one of their most popular programs which is all about Colonial and Victorian Christmas Customs. Judith Krall-Russo will be discussing all of the holiday traditions on Friday, Nov. 30 at 2 p.m. at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan Township. Krall-Russo will talk about the similarities and differences between the customs of a Colonial Christmas and a Victorian Christmas. Some common Christmas rituals including caroling and making a gingerbread house have been passed on from earlier times. Monmouth County Library Collecting Holiday Gifts for Foster Children

Donations can be made at Monmouth County Library Headquarters in Manalapan.

The Monmouth County Library system is collecting gifts for the foster children of Monmouth County this holiday season. From Nov. 20 through Dec. 17, gift collection boxes will be present in Monmouth County Library during regular library hours. Acceptable donations include new unwrapped gifts for children from infancy to 18-years-old as well as gift cards to popular stores for children.  Children in foster care can feel very much alone during the holiday season and remember good times with their biological families before the abuse began, according to Monmouth County Foster and Adoptive Family Services. November is Jazz Month for the Monmouth County Library System and while Hurricane Sandy put a little glitch in the fun, the jazz performances and education will still be rolled out this month.  Some of the original dates of the events have changed so please take note. Teens to Monster Mash at Monmouth County Library's Monster Bash

The Monmouth County Library is holding a Halloween Monster Bash for teenagers on Friday, Oct. 26.

If you’re a teenager looking to have a scary good time this Halloween, the Monmouth County Library has a monstrous party that even the most ghastly teen will appreciate. The Halloween Monster Bash is exclusively for guys and ghouls in sixth grade through twelfth grade. The bash is is being held on Friday, Oct. 26 from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Monmouth County Library in Manalapan.
