The Planning Board authorized completeness waivers for the application, in order to efficiently move the application through.

The Holmdel Planning Board approved application completeness waivers for Somerset Developers regarding the Alacatel-Lucent project, bringing it one step closer to an official public hearing. A completeness waiver, granted at the May 14 meeting, does not absolve the developer of providing the necessary information, it just allowed the Planning Board to schedule a hearing regarding the application in temporary absence of the materials. Some information will be mandatory as a condition of approval, such as environmental constraint maps, sewer capacity and traffic information. The waiver still allowed the Planning Board at a later date to ask for any information it feels is pertinent to the application. Somerset Developers said it will comply …

Teens Arrested in Another Lucent Vandalism and Burglary Case

One 18-year-old and two juveniles were arrested in the alleged burglary of Lucent Technologies.

Three young men were arrested in April for the alleged burglary and vandalism of Lucent Technologies in Holmdel, according to police. Kevin Zheng, 18 was arrested along with two juvenile suspects on April 17 after police responded to the report of a broken window on the Crawford's Corner Road property. According to a police news release, the individuals were charged with the possession of an imitation firearm, possession of a radio to intercept emergency communications, burglary, theft and criminal mischief. Zheng and one juvenile were arrested on April 17 at the scene, processed and released. A third juvenile suspect was arrested on April 29 and charged. Holmdel Ptlm. Mike Michalski and Det. Expanded sewerage plans are back on the agenda in Monmouth County, and Holmdel residents are again left wondering whether or not water supply in the township could be impacted. A future wastewater service area map will be discussed again in Monmouth County on Wednesday morning by the Monmouth County Water Quality Management Plan Amendment Review Committee. Holmdel Committee Sends Lucent Plans Back to Developer

The committee cited a lack of details on this round of the conceptual plans.

Conceptual maps for Holmdel's Alcatel-Lucent property were sent back to the developer after the township's committee asked for more detailed plans. "I was expecting something a lot more elaborate," Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said. "We're back to the drawing board." Committee concerns included open space preservation and a lack of traffic studies as well as the size and amount of proposed housing for the property. Somerset Development proposed two conceptual plans with age restricted housing, a sports complex and and a fitness facility. Once plan proposed 225 homes, the smallest being over 2,500 square feet. Memorial Sloan-Kettering is eyeing a large empty office building at 480 Red Hill Road in Middletown near Garden State Parkway Exit 114 for an outpatient cancer treatment center, according to Middletown Township officials.   At a Township Committee workshop meeting Thursday, elected officials expressed enthusiasm for the idea of a new medical facility in town that could employ 300 professionals. Gary- I had heard the same. Actually, have had working worked in that building from 2000-2001, I can certainly understand it. In its later years as Lucent, the hallways were hot and humid (literally), especially in the summer, while the offices were cooled. A Clue to What Alcatel-Lucent's New Buyer is Proposing?

A company spokeswoman refers to ideas in a 2009 township document.

When asked what the new potential buyer has in mind for the Lucent-Alcatel tract on Crawfords Corner Road in Holmdel, Lucent-Alcatel spokeswoman Mary Ward said she was bound by confidentiality agreements and would not comment. But she did mention a certain township document that might hold a clue. "We are not commenting on the plans this purchaser has for the property other than to say that we believe the new purchaser’s plan is closer to what was advocated in the REVA report commissioned by the town of Holmdel," said Ward in an emailed statement to Patch on Thursday. Company refutes "inaccurate" views presented by opponents of proposed amendments to Monmouth County Wastewater Management Plan, specifically those made by former Holmdel mayor Ernest Cote.

Somerset Development's Concept of "A Great Public Place"

Somerset Development's Ralph Zucker describes their vision for the interior of the legendary Bell Labs building.

Ralph Zucker, president of the Somerset Development, described his vision for a vibrant public space, alive with people, in the glass enclosed areas of the vacant Bell Labs building.  He spoke before a large audience of residents who attended a presentation on June 15 at the Community Center.  "This is going to be our town square," he said.
