Keansburg Man Indicted on Murder Charge for Alleged Baseball Bat Attack in Cemetery

Investigators say he beat the victim to death with a baseball bat.

A Keansburg man is charged with murder and other offenses contained in a five-count indictment handed up Monday by a Monmouth County grand jury, according to Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni. Robert Hesse, 34, whose last known address was on Laurel Avenue in Keansburg, is charged with first degree Murder and related third and fourth degree weapons offenses, according to a press release from the Prosecutor's Office. Additionally, he is charged with second and fourth degree counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child by the distribution and possession of child pornography. Keansburg, Union Beach Get Fed Funds for Sandy-Struck Schools

US Dept. Ed. funds $1.25 million to districts in NJ

Keansburg and Union Beach school districts are among the Sandy-impacted districts receiving funds through a $1.25 million grant from the US Department of Education, according to an announcement made Tuesday afternoon by the state Department of Education and the governor's office. Keansburg schools are receiving $322,527 and Union Beach is receiving $28,667, according to a prepared statement from the governor's office. Keansburg was awarded the largest sum, followed by Brick's $211,891 in funds (see chart below). Sold Out 'Holmdel Helps' Event Raises Money for Keansburg Sandy Survivors

More than 700 people turned out for a festive benefit at the Lakeside Manor on March 1.

Inspired by the opportunity to show compassion for their Keansburg neighbors affected by Superstorm Sandy, 700 people turned out to a festive night of cocktails, music, dancing, food and schmoozing at Lakeside Manor Friday night. The organizers behind "Holmdel Helps" have started a partnership with a goal to raise $100,000. They pledged to give every dollar of it to Keansburg's elected leaders to distribute to its pre-screened homeowners in need of building supplies and appliances. According to Keansburg Borough Councilman Tom Foley, who is also a Holmdel police officer, that could mean up to $1,000 voucher per homeowner. Holmdel Helps is planning a fundraising event on March 1, with a goal to raise $100,000

Updated: The March 1 fundraiser is completely sold out, but donations are still being accepted. Keansburg residents looking for assistance need to contact Keansburg Boro or fill out the "affected residents" form at the Boro website. Holmdel Helps does not choose which residents will receive construction materials.  In the continued aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, Holmdel Township is banding together to get the lives of Keansburg residents and their town back to normal. In December, Holmdel announced it would partner with officials in Keansburg in longterm recovery and rebuilding efforts. In attempt to get illegal guns off the streets and cut into gun violence, the Attorney General’s Office is staging a state-sponsored gun buyback to be held in Monmouth County early next month, officials said Thursday.  State Attorney General Jeffrey S. Chiesa was in Asbury Park Thursday to announce the March 8 and 9 program would be held in conjunction with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, the Asbury Park Police Department, the Keansburg Police Department, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, and local faith-based community organizations. Time Capsule Unearthed at Site of Keansburg School

The small metal box was buried in the cornerstone, dated 1921.

A time capsule was recently found during demolition of the former Joseph C. Caruso Elementary School in Keansburg.  The small metal box was discovered encased in the cornerstone of the building by the general contractor responsible for the demolition of the Caruso building in mid-November. Tricon Enterprises, Inc. workers freed the box with a chisel.  Inside were six “one cent” coins dating back to the early 1800’s, a copy of The Keansburg Beacon dated December 15, 1921, a few photos and a program from the Dedication Ceremony in which the time capsule was placed in the cornerstone.  The Keansburg School District intends to display the contents of the time capsule in the new school. Gov. Christie: Relax About Gasoline, There's Plenty

Gov. Chris Christie assured Monmouth County residents that there is no risk of running out of gas at a press conference outside the Bolger school in Keansburg today.

Ten gasoline tankers protected by the National Guard were ordered into Monmouth County to deliver gasoline to stations that have power but no fuel, said Gov. Chris Christie at an afternoon press conference outside the Bolger School on Palmer Avenue in Keansburg today.  Christie wanted to assure nervous motorists that over 80,000 gallons of gasoline was coming out of Fort Dix, and the government was efforting to increase that number.  "We are not running out of gasoline. UPDATE: Police Address Rumors in Dog Death Cases in Keansburg

According to the Keansburg Police Dept, two dogs have died since Oct. 6 from ingesting a toxic substance. They say rumors that more have died are untrue.

Keansburg Police and Monmouth County SPCA Police Chief Victor "Buddy" Amato are investigating the deaths of two dogs -- one that died of ingesting anti-freeze and another that died from ingesting an undetermined toxic substance. A healthy family pet that lived in a house near East Church Street died on Oct. 6 within 24 hours after ingesting what the veterinarian believed to have been anti-freeze. The death of the Jack Russell terrier was reported to Keansburg Police and Amato by a veterinarian about three days ago.
