Police: Range Rover Stolen From Gated Property in Holmdel

The key fob had been left in the vehicle, according to police.

Police are investigating the theft of a 2013 black Range Rover from a gated residence in Holmdel Wednesday. The Holmdel Police Department sent out an email alert to residents on Thursday stating that the vehicle had been taken between 9 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. the night before. The key fob had been left in the vehicle, police said. “Residents are reminded not to leave their keys in vehicles, and to immediately report any suspicious persons or activity to the Holmdel Police Department,” the email alert stated.

Crash That Injured Holmdel Police Officer Yields Indictment

Jack H. Wegman was allegedly under the influence of marijuana when he crashed into a police car at a DWI checkpoint.

A Monmouth County grand jury voted to indict Jack H. Wegman, 18, of Union Beach on charges he assaulted a Holmdel Police Officer with a vehicle at a DWI checkpoint in October 2012. On Oct. 7, 2011 at approximately 11:42 p.m., officers from the Holmdel Police Department, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office and the Brielle Police Department were in the process of preparing a DWI checkpoint on Route 35 just north of Centerville Road. Holmdel Patrolman Michael Michalski observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed toward the checkpoint and not slowing down in response to the warning lights and police vehicles at the scene, according to the press release. Pair Indicted on Several Charges of Receiving Stolen Property

An Aberdeen man and a Holmdel teen were indicted on charges stemming from incidents in Hazlet, Holmdel and Aberdeen.

Rafael Sanchez, Jr, 23, of Aberdeen and Jennifer Raxach, 18, of Holmdel were indicted by a Monmouth County grand jury on charges filed by Hazlet, Holmdel and Aberdeen.  Police say Sanchez stole over $500 worth of jewelry in Aberdeen on July 1 and received over $500 worth of stolen jewelry on both July 11 in Aberdeen and July 16 in Holmdel. Police say Raxach received over $500 worth of stolen jewelry between July 16 and 17 in Hazlet.  Sanchez was indicted on three charges, including theft of movable property and two counts of receiving stolen property. All are third degree crimes. Raxach was indicted on one count of third degree receiving stolen property. An indictment does not indicate a conviction, only that a grand jury voted there was …

Holmdel Police Call Off Alert on Driver Who Approached Juvenile

Police said man has been questioned and his contact with the juvenile was determined to be of no consequence.

The Holmdel Police Department called off an alert seeking information about a man who reportedly approached a female juvenile near Laurel Avenue on Thursday. The police department issued an automated phone notification to residents Thursday seeking information on the driver of the vehicle who had made contact with the girl. On Saturday morning, a second automated phone notification bulletin went out informing residents that the operator of the vehicle had been found and questioned. "Thanks to the immediate response of our residents to Thursday's message police were able to identify the operator of the vehicle who was believed to have approached a female juvenile," the message stated. Man Indicted on Charges of Possession, Distribution of Heroin in Matawan, Hazlet, and Keyport

He was arrested in January and was allegedly in possession of nearly 500 decks of heroin

A Monmouth County Grand Jury voted Thursday to indict an East Orange man on charges that he was in possession of and intended to distribute heroin in Matawan, Hazlet and Keyport. Reginald Roe, 31, was allegedly in possession of 492 decks of heroin branded with the name "FedEx," on Jan. 9, 2012, Matawan Lt. Ben Smith told Patch in January. The heroin had a street value over $5,000, according Smith. Roe was first arrested by Matawan Police in early Dec. 2011 for allegedly selling narcotics from a Tree Haven II apartment on Ravine Drive in Matawan. Holmdel PD Responded to 23,188 Calls for Help in 2011

The year in review, by the numbers.

Every month, the Holmdel Police Dept. releases information to the township's governing body regarding service calls. This is the December monthly report, which includes year-to-date figures as well. Under the direction of Chief John Mioduszewski, the department patrols 18 square miles in the mostly residential township with some commercial centers and office parks. Staffing levels are decreasing. In 2010, the year began with 44 officers. By 2011, staffing was down to 41 officers. By February 2012, the department will be reduced to 37 officers. Of the Holmdel resident's total tax bill, roughly 15 percent is paid to the township. The police department accounts for $6.75 million out of the municipality's $20 million budget, according to …
