Faux Tree Cell Tower Chopped Down by Planning Board [VIDEO]

A new hearing is scheduled for April 9 at 7 p.m.

A public hearing for a proposed faux tree cell tower on Porter Farm quickly unraveled when residents and Holmdel Planning Board members questioned possible tower heights . The tower, which would sit off of Middletown Road, was approved to be built at 130 feet, but when witnesses testified the tower would reach 140 feet and built for possible expansion, board members became frustrated. "What I want in my mind's eye is to make this as least intrusive as possible," Mayor Patrick Impreveduto said. "I do not want anyone to recognize it. I don't want them to see anything different than they see now." The cell tower was approved in July 2011 by the Township Committee, which entered into a contract with Verizon to build the tower. Last night's …

It's a disgrace that such an eyesore and a health hazard will be placed in the middle of a residential neighborhood. There might be a need (never had a problem with my cell) but why there?. Maybe Ms. DiMaso should have it put behind her million plus dollar home. If that were the case, the "legal ramification" she mentioned could have been sorted out, I'm sure. Another example of the holmdel …   more ›

Public Hearing for Porter Farm Cell Tower at Holmdel Planning Board

The board is meeting tonight at 7 p.m. in Town Hall.

A public hearing to place a faux tree cell tower on the Porter Farm property in Holmdel is tonight at 7 p.m. in Town Hall. The proposed tower would be 8.4 feet in diameter with nine antennaes at 130 feet. The proposal also includes an equipment shelter on the property. The contract for the tower has been awarded to Verizon, as of July 2011.  The proposed tower would sit on a piece of township property which was sliced off from the Porter Farm when a road was built. The parcel was deeded to the township, and "annexed" to Bayonet Farm, according to an archived Patch article. On tax maps, its known as Block 11, Lot 76 and is located next to Alcatel-Lucent's blocked-off driveway on American Way.   The 130-foot cell tower would mimic a tree's …

Holmdel Village 'Inverness' Subdivision Goes Before Holmdel Planning Board

The property is located between Vonage, at Route 520, and Willow Brook, on the border with Colts Neck.

The final major subdivision plan for the proposed development called Inverness, in Holmdel Village, returns to the Planning Board tonight. On the agenda is a proposal to subdivide property on the south side of Route 34 and Holmdel Road into four open space lots, and 18 single family building lots. One of those single family lots would contain the exiting historic farmhouse on the tract known as the Henry D. Ely farm and be encumbered by a farm land easement.  Preliminary approval the applicant, Westor Partnership, represented by Henry B. West, was granted in 2007.  The property is in the R-4R Rural Conservation District,  requiring mandatory cluster zoning and minimum 60% open space set aside. The meeting begins at 7 p.m. at Holmdel Town …

This is where you have to watch out for what the law calls "setting a precedent." If you allow a density increase, then the next builder in a zoning area will claim that they should get the same variance -- that is -- deviation from the zoning. NJ clearly bans "spot zoning", that is allowing land use on a case to case basis. In short, if the density goes up (or down) that opens the door to other …   more ›

Holmdel Seeks to Redefine Development Options at Alcatel-Lucent Property

The Planning Board reviews the Township Planner's report, and recommends the Township Committee change the property's designation from an area of rehabilitation to an area of redevelopment.

In the first step towards making the two-million square foot vacant Alcatel-Lucent building more desirable to future developers, the Holmdel Township Planning Board agreed Tuesday to recommend the Township Committee recognize it by state statute as an “area in need of redevelopment.” Currently, the property is classified as "an area in need of rehabilitation." But  Township Planner Jennifer Beahm of CME Associates of Howell made a case in an April 26 report that the property easily meets the "Redevelopment" category, and recommended the switch. “The Redevelopment designation provides more opportunity for Holmdel to bring this property back into the community,” she explained in her remarks to the board.  It is “step one” in a legal process…

Alcatel-Lucent (ALU-NYSE) lost 18% of it's value today. ALU is slowly dying. Similar to a hot dog restaurant in a town that is losing all of it's population. Even by selling off one of it's divisions, Genesys, gross margins dropped to 30%, the lowest since the merger 6 years ago. There is a very real possibility of bankruptcy in this picture. It should be taken into account. The French government…   more ›
